March 13, 2020

  • Dear Lancer Families:

Based on the rapidly evolving situation of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and recommendations from public health officials to limit public gatherings, Lake Park High School is closing all school buildings to students effective the end of today March 13 through April 5. In addition, all activities and events at the campuses are cancelled through spring break.

There are still no known COVID-19 cases in DuPage County. Many area schools are taking this measure in an effort to promote social distancing.

However, students will be “in school” virtually as the District provides continuity of instruction from March 17-19 and March 24-25. Please check your email in the coming days for additional details.

Spring break will run as previously scheduled on the 2019-20 school calendar from March 30 through April 3. We are reminding all students and staff members, who may be travelling to any area listed on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Travel Advisories with a Level 2 or above Travel Notice, to stay home and self-quarantine for 14 days following their return.

Students will be notified TODAY to bring home all their devices, chargers and any materials they would need to complete assignments. Students and parents should monitor the district’s website, check email, HAC, and Google Classroom for more information about the coronavirus and learning opportunities.

Thank you in advance for your support as we implement what is best for our students and staff during this unprecedented time. We understand this may cause challenges for some families; however, we believe this is in the best interest for our school community at this time. Please keep in mind that the safety and wellness of our students and staff remain at the forefront of our decision-making process.

We will consult with our local health officials over spring break to evaluate when it is safe for our students and staff to return to our facilities. Because this remains a developing situation, if different guidance comes from a State or National level, we will communicate with families to keep you informed of timely decisions.

    Thank you,

    Lynn Panega, Ed.D.
    Superintendent
