Dear Class of 2020 Lancer Families:
The final weeks of senior year at Lake Park High School have finally arrived and with more disruption than anyone could have anticipated. We recognize the sadness and loss our seniors and their families are feeling based on the cancellation of prom and an in-person graduation, both milestones and cherished memories. Please know that the administration, teachers, staff, and entire Lancer community stand with our graduating seniors and are invested in safely celebrating the achievements and accomplishments of the Class of 2020!
Thanks to the input and initiative of several parents who have partnered with Lake Park, families will soon notice a campaign to “paint the town Lancer blue” in honor of our seniors. From ribbons around trees and luminaries on the Prom date of Saturday, May 16 to displaying “I Support the Class of 2020” flyers in windows and drive-by parades, we hope Lancers will feel the love and support they deserve during such a challenging and emotional time when their final year has been suddenly cut short.
To prepare for the celebrations in the month ahead, please review the details for distribution of senior items (caps, gowns, honors cords, 5.0 medallions, honor roll certificates, yard signs, flyers and ribbons) in the West Campus parking lot on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2. When entering Lancer Drive from West End Road, we ask for your cooperation to comply with social distancing requirements by:
- Honoring and arriving only during the assigned 2-hour timeframe
- Remaining in your car for drive thru/contact less pick up (items will be placed in trunk)
- Traveling independently; no carpooling allowed - bikers/walkers directed to a separate station
- Presenting your ID at check-in; pick up is only allowed for your personal items
- Following instructions from security and staff who will be wearing gloves and masks for safety
Friday, May 1
Saturday, May 2

This week seniors can also expect to receive communication from LPGraduation@lphs.org regarding the next steps for the virtual graduation ceremony. View this sample clip to see how each graduate will be able to personalize their experience and later download to share with family, friends and post on social media. Also, be sure to submit your achievements by Wednesday, May 6 for recognition during the virtual Scholarship and Awards ceremony that will premiere on Tuesday, May 19.
We understand families have many logistical questions to help process the end of year. Please review this FAQ document for some answers that begin to tackle these challenges.
Annually, the senior class hears important messages to stay focused, finish strong and make good choices. These words bring even greater meaning this year as we are all committed to the greater good and doing our part to save lives and flatten the curve.
Although nothing can replace the experience of in-person celebrations, the opportunity for an on-campus event in late summer will continue to be explored, based on recommendations from local and state health officials.
Stay healthy and focused on the future - we hope to reunite with the Class of 2020 when it is safe for everyone. Congratulating our graduates in person would bring us tremendous Lancer Pride!
In This Together,
Lynn Panega, Ed.D.
