My student experienced technical difficulties during the AP exam. What should I do?
If a student experiences a significant disruption to the exam, including technical difficulties, the student should submit a request for a makeup exam directly through the College Board within 48 hours of their original testing time. A makeup exam can be requested at cb.org/requestmakeup.
Will colleges still accept a shortened AP exam for college credit?
For decades, colleges have accepted a shortened AP Exam for college credit when groups of students have experienced emergencies. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, colleges support this solution and are committed to ensuring that AP students receive the credit they've worked this year to earn.
Is my student going to be well-prepared to take this new format of the exam?
Yes. Our Lake Park teachers will continue to prepare students to their fullest abilities. The smaller scope of material and the additional time to review works in our favor. Continue to trust in the LP staff to provide students with review materials that will set them up for success. While the time frame is shorter, students have been preparing for free-response questions throughout the year. We believe in our Lancers and will continue to do our very best to prepare students to perform at their best on their AP exams this year!
How will students be prevented from cheating if the test is taken at home?
The exam questions are designed in ways that prevent cheating. College Board uses a range of digital security tools and techniques, including plagiarism detection software, to protect the integrity of the exams. Scoring at-home work for an AP Exam isn't new to the AP Program. For years the AP Program has received and scored at-home student work as part of the exams for the AP Computer Science Principles and AP Capstone™ courses. Please review the AP exam Security information provided by College Board and the severe consequences for any student violations to the testing rules.
Can I request a refund for the AP exam?
College Board has removed the financial penalty for canceling an AP exam. If this is something you are considering, please talk to your student’s AP teacher to get their insight on your student’s academic readiness for the AP exam. Students are strongly encouraged to see their commitment toward earning college credit through, including the completion of the AP exam. Lake Park recognizes that this is a unique time and stands by our Lancer families who may ultimately decide that a refund is needed. After communicating with your student’s AP teacher, parents/guardians may request a refund by completing this form. We ask for your patience as processing refunds during this time may take longer than usual.
My student was scheduled to take the AP exam with testing accommodations. Will these accommodations still be provided to my student?
Students will be able to use their approved accommodations for 2020 AP Exams. This year the way accommodations are provided may be different because the exams are shorter and will be taken online at home. As always, students may only use accommodations that they have been approved for by the College Board Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) office. The College Board has provided specific details about testing accommodations on their AP Coronavirus Updates site.
My student is unable to take the AP Exam during the primary window. How can I test during the make-up window?
Every effort should be made to test during this primary test window. This will allow for the material to be as fresh as possible during the exam window and for students to have a back-up test option should students lose power or internet during the exam. Contact Lake Park’s AP Coordinator, Jessica Foster, at jfoster@lphs.org should you anticipate a conflict with this primary test window.
