Forty-five Lake Park High School students received Stanley M. Wheeler Human Relations Awards for the 2006-2007 school year for outstanding character. Mr. Wheeler was an original faculty member of Lake Park High School and long-time principal. He taught at Lake Park High School from the school’s opening in 1956 until he became principal the following year, and served in that position from 1957 – 1977. He later served as Assistant Superintendent, Pupil Personnel Services, until his retirement in 1982.
Each of these students was nominated by a teacher for demonstrating or promoting good human relations with such behaviors as helping others in the classroom; befriending others regardless of social-economic, racial, religious or academic background; defending the rights of others; or showing genuine concern for others.
