National Merit Students
Congratulations to our three National Merit Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship
Program: Joelle Jach, Daniel Peel and Sean Tolrud. These three Lancers are members of
an elite group of 16,000 students nationally who will continue on in the National Merit Scholarship
Program, which will award $35 millioin to 8,200 finalists. National semifinalists represent
less than 1% of the nation's graduating seniors of the class of 2009.
Congratulations also to our nine National Merit Commended students: Lindsey Collins,
Kristen Giunta, Ugne Klibaite, Corinne McGinn, Christopher Peel, Elizabeth Pyde, Gurpal Sandhu,
Sydney Seal and Alexandra Wiatr. About 34,000 Commended students throughout the nation are
being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. They placed among the top 5% of more
than 1 million students who entered the 2009 competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National
Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) last October.
