SADD Collaborates with Roselle Police Department to Encourage Safe Driving Among LPHS
Students
Lake Park High School and the Roselle Police Department have begun the Safety Incentive Program (SIP) to increase the responsibility students take when it comes to their own safety and the decisions they make on a daily basis.
Students participating in this voluntary program will sign a Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)-sponsored “Contract for Life” which encourages parents and teens to openly discuss issues which affect their child’s safety. The Contract is an agreement between the teens and their parent(s) in which the youth agree to not drink and drive or ride in cars driven by drivers who have been drinking alcohol. They further agree to call for a ride and the parent in return agrees to wait to discuss the incident until both parties have had time to compose themselves. Additionally, they agree to always wear a seat belt.
Students who are “caught” wearing their seat belts and making other safe decisions will receive a ticket which will be entered into a monthly drawing at the school. The program will run during the school year and culminate in a grand prize drawing worth $5,000 at the Battle of the Bands in May.
Motor vehicle crashes are now the leading cause of death for 15- to 20-year-olds in America. In 2005, 62% of teenage passenger vehicle occupants killed in fatal crashes were not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
If your child has not already signed a contract, please click here for a copy of the contract which then needs to be returned to Mr. Olandese at East Campus or Mrs. Konwinski at West Campus. They can also be turned into Student Services.
