D.A.R.E. Role Models

D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Role Models is open to responsible juniors and seniors who have adopted a drug and alcohol free lifestyle while excelling since junior high school. They are actively involved in Lake Park activities and/or sports. They work closely with D.A.R.E. police officers at Lake Park’s sender schools. Role Models return to 5th & 6th grade classrooms with D.A.R.E. officers to answer questions many junior high students have prior to attending Lake Park. D.A.R.E. Role Models clear up the misconceptions of being a high school student. The goal of a Role Model is to establish the importance of making drug free choices at an early age.

Earth Club

The Earth Club raises ecological issues and supports the Lake Park recycling effort.  It meets at both campuses and publishes their own newsletters on ecological issues..

National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is an honorary society whose members are chosen by the faculty based upon the students’ character, service, scholarship, and leadership.  New members are inducted in the spring. The society provides tutoring for fellow students, service projects, and leadership opportunities throughout the year for its members.

Peer Jury

The Itasca / Roselle Peer Jury program is a juvenile first offender program designed to divert juvenile offenders from the DuPage County juvenile justice system. Lake Park students age 13 thru 17 can become members of the Peer Jury. Prospective jurors should be drug, alcohol, and violence free, students who are willing to go to a monthly, 4 hour, adjudication meeting. The Peer Jury hears juvenile offender cases and imposes community service sentences on first time offenders.

Peer Mediators

Peer mediators are students who are specially trained to assist other students in their efforts to resolve conflicts. The peer mediators serve as members of a neutral third party in an environment in which students in conflict have a chance to sit face-to-face and talk, uninterrupted, so each point of view can be heard. Students work together to identify the problem and make an effort to forge a win-win solution. Students finalize an agreement to conduct themselves in a different manner from that point forward.

Students Against Destructive Decisions

SADD meets at both campuses and promotes a safe, drug and alcohol free lifestyle for all students. SAAD offers diverse activities ranging from dances, guest speakers for teens and parents, dinners, open gyms, the Battle of the Bands, and the Talent Show. They have regular meetings at both campuses and participate in local, county, and state SADD events.

Snowball

The Snowball program offers students a weekly support group that works with high school and junior high students to promote a healthy lifestyle.  Snowball retreats offer leadership training and peer support in a non threatening supportive atmosphere.

The WONDER Club

The WONDER Club is Lake Park High School’s student led diversity club.  The major focus of the club is to get students of various cultures and races together in order to accept one another and learn about each other’s culture.  The highlight of the year for WONDER is their Culture Show where students present the wonder of their heritage through music, dance, and art.  Meetings are held weekly throughout the year.
