English Department
The Lake Park English department offers courses to meet ISBE Learning Standards as well as a wide array of student interests. Required academic courses for regular and advanced students are aligned to help students meet the state learning standards, and help to prepare students for the PSAE/ACT. Honors/AP courses also help meet the learning standards, prepare students for the PSAE/ACT, and prepare students for more specialized and rigorous PSAT, SAT, and AP exams. Drama, Debate, Film Study, Journalism, TV Production, and other related elective courses are also aligned to the state learning standards. These elective courses help create well-rounded students and give those students the opportunity to:
- increase understanding and appreciation of the fine arts;
- increase the skills of creative and critical thinking;
- increase understanding of the role of English, the fine arts, and communication in the world beyond the classroom;
- practice communication, performance and production skills that can be used in higher education and the workplace.
